The Progression of One

Everyone needs some-One
Because everyone is Some-One
It may take two conceive but they both conceive One
Even if they be twins there is always a first-One

Life is a progression of One
This is a story about every-One
But no-One in particular

As we grow older we realize we need Some-One
Yes it’s the science of Attraction and Biology is the First One
We all interact and react so Chemistry is the second One
But some things require athletic abilities so Physics it the third One

In time I found some-One
Fell so hard I thought she must be the One
But in time I realized there too many Ones in this relationship
And yes that makes me the other One
Am just another One

Heartbroken so I took it out on some-One
She thought I was the One
But I knew she was just another One
So no she's not the only One
There is the One am after 
But she is with another One 
We are all just the other One

Don’t hate me am just trying to be the honest One
Look up at the man in the mirror and you’ll see am not the only One
Let’s be realistic we are all the unfaithful Ones

Don’t look down on me because am the single One
You maybe the married One
but you’re not the faithful One
There has to be a life of the party and you think you’re the only One
Yes you’re the married and promiscuous One
To most people you look like the Happy One
Truth be told you’re just the Herpes One

Don’t think you’re fooling her she has seen you with the other One
She sorts your laundry so she knows there is a red lipstick and a blue lipstick One
She pretends not to know but you’re the ignorant One
Yes she also has another One
He could be just some guy or one of your boys
Yes even the best One
You may be cheating but you’re not the only One

Every relationship has its issues but cheating is the deal breaking One
She would like to leave but you’re the bread winning One
Yes she’s the child raising One
You are just the bill paying One


Life is the progression of One
Numbers are infinite but it all starts with One
One is a lonely number that’s why you need another One
There maybe two of us but there is always an unfaithful One
If the is more than One, One in this relationship
I might as well be the One with another One
Five billion of us and we are all looking for ONE 
That one who will be the Faithful ONE

How long is 60 seconds?  The simple answer would be one minute. Philosophically speaking time is the experience of durations thus in reality 60 seconds can pass in the blink of an eye but at times it can feel like a lifetime.  I had always thought I would die a natural death; sleep never to wake up again. Tuesday 12:30 am Sirens rang over the city as fire trucks and ambulances converged on an isolated house at the edge of Karura forest. The fire was spreading to the trees, threatening to torch Wangari Maathai’s legacy. Alone and seemingly paralyzed in the would be parking lot of the house stood an eight-year-old boy and right beneath his feet lay his four-year-old sister. He stared into the abyss as if waiting for something or someone to reach out, oblivious of the firefighters and the first responders who were by now trying to break into the blazing inferno. How do you know you exist. Who are we? Are we alive or just alive transmission of societal affirmation? Have we become what is expected or are we who we want to be? If I was about to jump off a balcony who would be there to stop me? If I bought a gun who would I be after myself or the ghosts that haunt me? Is my life a drop in the ocean or is it the spring of life that feeds the rivers and lakes that rejuvenate the ocean? Am I a noise in the crowd or am I that unique beat that keeps the music going? Am I outstanding, standing, slanting, sliding, slipping, falling or fallen? Am I a visionary, successful, succeeding, progressing, regressing, regretting, failing or failure? Can you see it when you look at me? Will I see it when I look in the mirror? I know what I am but who am I? Riddle me that.
